Invergordon is a small town in the northeast highlands of Scotland, situated on the shores of the Cromarty Firth, approximately 26 miles north of Inverness.
Because of its natural, deep-water harbour, Invergordon’s fortunes have inevitably been connected with the sea. It is perhaps best known for its naval history, from the sinking of the ‘Natal’ in 1915 with the loss of over 300 lives, to the Invergordon Mutiny in 1931, both of which are well documented. The Royal Navy’s presence in the town continued into the fifties although on a much smaller scale than during previous years when thousands of sailors thronged the streets when ‘the fleet was in’.

Currently Invergordon, once again due to its ideal anchorage, has become a hub for the cruise liner industry. Approximately 40 liners visit each year during the summer season. This year saw the maiden visit of the Queen Mary 2 on Sunday 19 June when thousands of visitors enjoyed the music and entertainment which was organised for the day. The weather was absolutely glorious, there was a real buzz about the place and a great day was had by one and all. The Queen Elizabeth 2 paid its fourth visit on Monday 1 August, and her visit to the town proved to be every bit as successful.
